Education
Imagine a community where students, parents and teachers can access student grades, class schedules, report cards, progress reports and homework assignments any time, any place, wirelessly. Imagine a community where they can all talk and conference online. That community is being built…
Project - CCISD
In September 2006, the Corpus Christi Independent School District (CCISD) entered into an agreement with the CCDCDC to establish a pilot program at Cullen Middle School for use of the WiFi network to further the educational purposes of the district and determine the feasibility of using the WiFi network throughout the district. A design plan was developed to accomplish the goal of utilizing the WiFi network to enable wireless broadband connectivity over the campus of the CCISD pilot school (Cullen Middle School).
The pilot provided a means for teachers, students and parents to use portable, wireless devices on the Cullen MS Campus. All students and teachers were provided laptops and access to an electronic collaboration application. The pilot includes CCISD rerouting Internet traffic from Cullen Middle School to the TSC building via the WiFi network, thus allowing a decrease in high utilization of network bandwidth within the CCISD WAN Link. CCISD will also test the ability to direct traffic through the WiFi network, while ensuring data integrity.
In February 2008, CCISD went live with the collaboration application, eChalk. With a password and a click, parents can access online grade reports, progress reports, attendance reports, schoolwork, and other information for their children. Usage of the new eChalk system broke records with more than 556,000 hits to district and campus sites in the first two days of its launch.
